Do you know how to look after your Christmas tree?

These are our steps to help you have a sparkling success this Christmas:

1) At home, decide where your tree will go and measure out the space. Don’t forget to take a tape measure with you to the Christmas tree farm.

2) Select a healthy-looking tree with a good shape and shiny needles. The heavier the tree feels, the fresher it will be, as it will have lost less moisture since being cut.
3) Tap the base of the tree on the ground. This will show if there are any bugs and also check for needle retention. Some needle drop is natural, but if it is excessive, choose another tree.

4) Select a Christmas tree stand with a large water holding capacity, like Bertie. Bertie also has fold out legs to offer additional support and can secure all popular tree sizes 4ft – 9ft, in one stand. This means you can re-use Bertie the following year with your next Christmas tree.

5) Once home, secure your tree in your water holding, Bertie Christmas tree stand. Then top up every couple of days to keep the needles fresh.

6) To keep your tree fresher for longer, make sure the tree is placed away from direct heat, such as open fires or radiators. Allow plenty of space for air to circulate around it, too.

7) Check with your local council or Christmas tree grower on how best to recycle your Christmas tree.
